6 days of adventure

Day 1: Amboseli National Park

8 AM Pick up at a hotel in Nairobi and drive to Amboseli National Park arriving at the camp in time for check-in and lunch. Afternoon game drive.
Dinner and overnight at Kilima Camp – Amboseli

Amboseli National Park:
Situated 250 km south-east of Nairobi, this 392 sq km park is famous for its big game and its beauty. Open plains, areas of yellow barbed acacia woodland, rocky patches, lava streams, thorn bushes, swamps and marshes are some of the different ecosystems found here. Majestically dominating the area, rising above a saucer of clouds, is “Africa’s rooftop,” the snow-capped mount Kilimanjaro (5895 meters).
Here the pastoral and proud Masaai people herding their cattle have lived in harmony with the wildlife since the days of the past. This was the beloved local place of Earnest Hemmingway and Robert Ruark, where the sparkling white snows of Kilimanjaro have been a picturesque backdrop to one of Kenya’s most spectacular displays of wildlife – lion, elephant, leopard, cheetah, buffalo and hosts of plains game – making a perfect photographer’s paradise. Swamps and springs fed by underground rivers from the melting snows of the mountain provide permanent watering places for the game while a nearby dried-up lake bed produces a shimmering image in the day’s heat.

Day 2: Amboseli National Park

Full day in Amboseli National Park with game drives.
All meals and overnight at Kilima Camp – Amboseli

Day 3: Amboseli / Lake Naivasha

Breakfast and check out. Drive to Lake Naivasha arriving at the lodge in time for check-in and lunch. Afternoon at leisure.
Dinner and overnight at Lake Naivasha Simba Lodge

Lake Naivasha:
This 68 square kilometre fresh water lake is considered a bird watcher’s paradise. It has been described as a bewilderment of birds. It is estimated that there are more than 400 species around it. Water birds exist in great varieties and abundance. The lake has no apparent outlet but remains fresh and changes noticeably in size according to rainfall in the nearby Mau hills and Aberdare mountain ranges. The Lake has a resident population of hippos and many fish. It was here that Joy Adamson’s book Born Free was written. Activities in this area include boat rides to see the hippo schools and watch birds, visits and walking on the Crescent Island.
The Crescent Island is one of the major features of this lake and is one of the rare places in the country where one can wander among the wildlife on foot. The Island takes its name from its shape. It is the visible tip of a volcanic crater rim, forming a bay in the deepest part of the lake.
The lake is surrounded by private game sanctuaries and lush farmlands. Mammals also include waterbuck, Impala, Gazelle and birds found here include the black-necked Grebe, Great-crested Grebe, Little Grebe, the Night Heron, Fish Eagle, Sacred Ibis, Hadada Ibis, Glossy Ibis, Pelicans, Cormorants and the African Darter among others.

Day 4: Visit Lake Nakuru National Park

Breakfast and this proceed to Lake Nakuru National Park for game drives including a hot lunch. After lunch, return to the hotel.
Dinner and overnight at Lake Naivasha Simba Lodge

Lake Nakuru National Park:
This is an all-time favourite for visitors as well as locals. Just 160 km from the capital city Nairobi, Lake Nakuru National Park is an Ornithologist’s paradise. At times, many Flamingos live on this lake feeding on algae, their main diet. The fishing Pelicans are also seen in large colonies swimming among the Flamingos as they go about their fishing errands. Stilts, Cormorants, Goliath Heron, Egrets and Maasai Ostrich are just some of the birds to be found around the lake. The park surrounds the lake and was recently designated as a Rhino sanctuary. Here, both the black and the white Rhino are regularly seen with ease. It is also the best park to observe Leopard whose population here is impressive. This is home to the rare and endangered Rothschild Giraffe. Other games include Cape Buffalo, Waterbuck, Impala, Gazelle, Common Zebra and Lion.

Day 5: Lake Naivasha / Masai Mara Game Reserve

Breakfast and check out. Drive to Masai Mara Game Reserve arriving at the camp in time for check-in and lunch. Afternoon game drive.
Dinner and overnight at Mara Engai

Maasai Mara Game Reserve:
Maasai Mara is a pristine African wilderness. The reserve is world famous for its vast assemblage of plains’ game together with their assorted predators. It is perhaps the only area remaining in the world where one may see wildlife in the same super-abundance as existed years ago. It is the stage for the annual migration – hundreds of thousands of Wildebeest and Zebra follow the timeless ritual of migration, moving from Serengeti in Tanzania to Maasai Mara in search of fodder as they have done since time immemorial.
The reserve is home to the largest population of lions to be found in Kenya, as well as huge herds of Topi and other antelopes. The area is bisected by the Mara River which every now and then comes into tumultuous flood, and which is boarded by a section of luxurious riverine forest. Hippos laze in its waters, while drowsy-looking crocodiles sunbathe on the banks, mouths agape. Despite the marvels of the annual migration, the Mara is rich in resident wildlife and avifauna. The bird life is profuse with over 400 species readily identified.

Day 6: Masai Mara Game Reserve

Full day in Masai Mara Game Reserve with game drives.
All meals and overnight at Mara Engai

Day 7: Masai Mara / Nairobi / Depart
