The Rwenzori Mountains, known historically as the “Mountains of the Moon,” are cited by some as the location of King Solomon’s famous gold mines. The Albertine Rift Valley, which runs along the western border of the country and contains species found nowhere else in the world, has been internationally designated as a “biodiversity hotspot.”
