Overview
Since the abolition of the slave trade, spices have been at the heart of Zanzibari enterprise. The sheer variety that grow on the island highlights its strategic location as well as the depth of cultural interaction. Indeed no trip to Zanzibar could be considered complete without a visit to one of our carefully selected spice farms. This involves visiting the spice plantations to see different spices and to learn about their nature and uses, and even taste some of them right on the spot, depending on the season. In addition you can also see medicinal, cosmetic and ornamental plants as well as herbs. Some of the most interesting plants you will see include cloves, nutmeg, rambutan, lipstick, iodine plant, lemon grass, vanilla, henna and shampoo plant.
